4Sevens launches yet another breakthrough model, the Maelstrom S12!

The S12 is the new benchmark for ultra compact, insanely bright tactical and duty flashlights. It is the smallest flashlight in the world to use the SST-90 emitter.
It features both current and thermal regulation – this means it can take serious abuse and be exposed to harsh conditions, but it will automatically control its output to protect its own guts. That means you don’t worry about your light – you just use it.
The S12 also runs off one of our own special lithium-ion rechargeable batteries. It’s called a 26650, and it packs enough energy to power the S12 at 800 lumens for an entire 90 minutes.
The S12 uses a single battery specially designed by 4Sevens called the 26650 which also requires a special 26650 Battery Charger which is also designed and manufactured by 4Sevens.

The Maelstrom S12 features a simple, two-mode interface that takes only a few seconds to master. To start, please make sure the S12 battery is inserted with the positive side (+) toward the head. Then, tighten the tailcap fully down and the S12 will turn on. Loosen the tailcap a half-turn, and the S12 will turn off.
The S12 tailcap has a pressure-style switch. When the tailcap is loosened a half-turn, simply press the button on the back to activate the light. The switching mechanism is momentary, which means when you stop pressing on the button, the S12 will turn off. To ‘lock’ the S12 on, simply tighten the tailcap fully down again.
To switch between the high and low output modes, turn the S12 off, and then turn it on again within 1 second. Anytime the S12 is turned on within 1 seconds of being turned off, it will automatically switch to the next mode. However, if you leave the S12 off for 2 seconds or longer, it will “memorize” the last mode used. See the examples below:
Example 1: ON (High mode) — OFF (1 Second) — ON (Low Mode)
Example 2: ON (High mode) — OFF (2 Seconds) — ON (High mode)
After nearly a year of research and development, the first of the Maelstrom line is ready to storm the market!

Typical of 4Seven’s design philosophy of “function over form,” the Maelstrom G5 was conceived with these basic goals:
Eight verstible modes of output are accessible by rotating the head. A completely silent 4-point switch allows switching modes without detection, ideal for tactical situations. The most commonly used modes of output placed as the first two positions (tight and immediately loosened) for Max/Strobe and High/Medium.
Generous knurling throughout the entire light ensures confident grip even in the messiest of situations. Removable grip ring, clip and crenated stainless steel strike bezel. A flat black aluminum bezel and grip ring replacement are included.

Shock-mounted battery design fixes the batteries inside to the body of the light, avoiding self-destructive battery movement. The light is ready to be weapon mounted.
Patent-pending anti-rattle design that accomodates both 2xcr123a and 1×18650 without the need of spacers or adaptors. A custom molded holster shaped for the G5 is included – designed to help retain the light in holster even when flap is open.
A tactical ‘clicky’ switch is fully exposed in the tailcap for easy access, even when wearing gloves.

As of 2010, few lights will compare to capabilities contained within the 1.6 ounce Preon 2 flashlight by innovative lighting company “4Sevens.” It’s not the only game in town when it comes to subcompact lighting technologies, but it’s one of the best. The Preon 1 is its little brother (single AAA, not reviewed in depth here) and it differs in having a twist versus a clicky UI (both interchangeable if desired). For its excellent ergonomics (discussed), longer burn times, and attention getting brightness level, I prefer the Preon 2. It incorporates capabilities that had previously been the domain of larger flashlights and gives its user more versatility. While single mode, medium-brightness level lights (like the still excellent, high value Streamlight Stylus Pro) will continue to win fans for their simplicity, the 2-cell AAA Preon 2 is a more flexible illumination tool. In the primary mode, it gives the user a choice of: Low 2.2 lumens (a useful illumination level), Med 22, or a class-leading High mode giving 160 lumens. The high mode gives the dimunitive light some serious searching capabilities, leaving dimmer lights in the dust. These primary modes are accessed by either a hard-click on the end push button or, once turned on, by soft presses on the switch. Special modes of Strobe, SOS, Beacon High, or Beacon Low are also easily accessed but reside deep enough in the interface where accidental actuation is unlikely. All the special modes further give a depth to the Preon …

The Turbo model of the Quark tactical flashlights simply have a reflector that is double the size of the standard quark flashlight. This gives you a more focused tighter beam that projects about 25 yards further than the standard modal. That is the reason I replaced my Fenix L2D. The smaller reflector L2D is a better EDC work light for most people due to the smaller size and wider light pattern.. Uses the Latest Cree XP-G R5 LED. Programmable settings from 0.2 lumen to 205 lumen also includes strobe, SOS, and Beacon modes.
